Patients with any of the above conditions require regular monitoring and the practice offers appointments with specialist nurses who are able to review medication and conditions. This review is usually due in your birth month but the date can be found at the bottom of your prescription and you will also be reminded by letter. This is a ‘one-stop-shop’ therefore patients with multiple problems will receive a longer appointment but will only usually have to attend once per year for their review with a nurse.

Some patients will require a blood test and urine test before their annual review appointment. The receptionist will arrange this when you call for your review appointment.

Health Promotion & Screening Clinics

All adult patients are advised to have a general health check, including blood pressure, weight, etc, every 5 years. These are conducted by appointment in the General Nursing Clinic. More specialised clinics are offered at various times in the week by the practice and community teams as follows:

Child Health Surveillance Clinic

A joint clinic run by the health visitor and GP to check your child’s health and development at key stages up to the age of 5.

Chlamydia Screening

It is very important to treat the infection. Although initially most people show no symptoms, as the infection spreads to other parts of the body it can cause more serious and permanent problems.

The test is simple and it's FREE:

• Pick up a sample pack and information leaflet which are found on the right as you walk into the surgery.
• Fill in the form, pee in the pot, pop it in the basket adjacent to the nurses rooms.
• Results can be given to you by, text, phone, email or letter, whichever you prefer.

This test is only for Chlamydia.  If you think you may have any other STD's you need to speak to the Nurse or Doctor.

Diabetes Clinic 

This clinic is run by experienced Diabetes Specialist Nurses (DSN's) and the aim of the clinic is to provide a high standard of diabetes care which is easily accessed and patient centred. The Nurses encourage good self management and the reduction of risk of long term complications amongst Type 1 and Type 2 diabetic patients.  

Family Planning Clinic

A nurse-led clinic offering confidential family planning advice. Emergency contraception and intra-uterine device (coils) can also be provided by certain GPs. All women of childbearing age can be seen confidentially. Evening clinics are held at Market Harborough Cottage Hospital on Tuesday (7.00pm - 8.30pm).

Minor Surgery Clinic

Provided by the GPs at pre-arranged times.

Smoking Cessation Clinic

Provided by the Resolutions Smoking Cessation Service to offer help and advice to those wishing to stop smoking. Other clinics are run in Market Harborough - see reception for details.

Substance Misuse Clinic

Provided in conjunction with the Drug Care Workers for patients dependent on drugs. This clinic is by a referral appointment system only.

Free NHS Health Check 

NHS Health Checks are being offered to people aged between 40 and 74 once every five years. The check is to assess your risk of developing heart disease, stroke, kidney disease or diabetes. If there are any warning signs, then together we can do something about it. These checks will be by invitation only.

Immunisation Clinics

Children’s Vaccination Clinic 

Offered by the health visitors each Wednesday (10:00am – 6.00pm) and Thursday (1.30 - 4.30pm) for routine childhood vaccinations.

Flu Vaccination Clinic

These are available from late September to late December for the annual flu vaccination programme. Adult vaccinations are given by practice nurses. Children’s flu clinics are offered by the health visitors.

Pneumonia Vaccination Clinic

These are available throughout the year.

Travel Clinic

A nurse-led clinic offering travel vaccinations and health advice. Remember to book well in advance for immunisations.

Pregnancy Care

 This practice offers care from pre-conception through to the end of the post-natal period. If you think you may be pregnant please contact your GP in the first instance. If you are pregnant you will be referred to a community midwife who runs Ante-Natal Clinics at the Community Hospital. You will also be under the care of a consultant who will see you once or twice routinely or if there are any specific problems.

Various ante-natal screening tests are on offer. Please discuss these with either your midwife, contact: 01858 438142 or GP if you have any queries. After the birth of the baby the surgery offers baby checks, routinely at 6 weeks where you can discuss issues and arrange immunisations with either the GP or health visitor. There will also be post-natal checks for the mum. This is an opportunity to discuss your future contraception and any other health issues as a new mum.

If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements.  Before you attend for this appointment you will need to print off, complete and hand in the attached travel questionnaire. Travel Questionnaire  This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible  - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations.  These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine.  Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Most travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge.  This is because travel vaccination is not included in the services provided by the NHS and therefore is a chargeable service.

Non-NHS Services

A number of medical examinations, reports including HGV/LGV, taxi and PSV's, insurance forms and certificates are not available on the NHS, but may be provided by the GPs privately for a fee. These may be requested via the receptionist, who will inform you of the relevant charge. While the GPs endeavour to complete requests within 10 working days, clinical work must take priority.

Although some travel vaccinations are available on the NHS, many are not. Patients travelling abroad are advised to complete a travel form (available from Nurses’ Desk), so that the nurse can advise you of any NHS or non-NHS vaccinations you might need. Both types of vaccination are available through our Travel Clinic, although there will be a charge for non-NHS vaccinations.  Malaria tablets are available to purchase from the dispensary.

The practice is a designated Yellow Fever Centre.

Our doctors are unable to provide occupational health services directly with our patients,such as Hepatitis B vaccinations. You may find that your employer’s occupational health department may be able to offer these services in conjunction with ourselves.
